Are you looking for a dynamic volunteer position in the arts? Are you passionate about ceramics? Become a Northern Clay Center tour guide and provide educational and entertaining experiences for young people and adults at a world-renowned ceramics arts center. The multi-week training program begins in early fall.
Northern Clay Center tour guides help connect people of all ages with the ceramic arts. Our tour guide training program features an in-depth course on Minnesota ceramics, historical and contemporary ceramics and also covers various teaching and touring techniques. Participants explore various methods of leading groups through Northern Clay Center’s gallery, special exhibitions, classrooms, kiln room and artist studios.
The initial sessions are led by Northern Clay Center staff members and guest lecturers from the local art community. Active guides may continue their training through staff-led tours of special exhibitions, presentations by guest speakers, and other Northern Clay Center programs and classes.
Benefits of becoming a Northern Clay Center tour guide include:
- an excellent course on modern and contemporary ceramics at no cost to you
- free exhibition catalogs for exhibitions you tour; discounts in the Sales Gallery; discounted or free tickets to many NCC events and programs
- opportunities to meet visiting artists from around the world
- a behind-the-scenes look at NCC
- connecting with others who share your interest in ceramics
- supporting the Center's mission of advancing the ceramic arts
To participate in NCC’s tour guide training:
- you should have an interest in ceramics and a dedication to sharing that enthusiasm and knowledge with the public
- you will receive a complimentary individual membership to NCC
- you must commit to attending every class
There will be New Tour Guide Training courses held in the spring, beginning on May 4, 2012, and meeting for 6 weeks, typically on Fridays from 9 am – 12 noon.
