2012 Spring McKnight Resident Artists
NCC is happy to welcome the Spring McKnight Artist in Residence, Peter Masters.  Masters received his BA from the University of Alberta in Edmonton and his MFA from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.  He has been an artist-in-residence at a variety of institutions, including the Quay School of Arts in Whanganui, New Zealand; the Ballardini Ceramics Institute in Faenza, Italy; the Mendocino Art Center in California; and most recently, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in Texas.  His sculptures have been widely exhibited and included in a variety of publications including Ceramics Monthly and Craft Arts International.

In his artist statement, Masters explains that his “first language is visual.” His sculptural vessels are visual communicators that convey his own thoughts and emotions.  These objects take the viewer on a psychological journey, one that infers logical possibilities, yet defies explanation.  During his McKnight Residency, Masters plans to research and experiment with new clay bodies and glazes, further developing his current Galactic series.

Masters will be in residence from April through June, and will provide a free slide lecture about his work on Tuesday, April 17, at 6:30 pm in NCC’s library. Join us for refreshments, images, and great conversation.

The McKnight Ceramic Artist program is supported by The McKnight Foundation, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Additional information about this program and details about the 2012 round of applications for the grant program can be found here.
