Northern Clay Center is please to announce the recipients of 2012 Jerome Ceramic Artists Project Grants. A total of $18,000 was awarded to the following artists: Marion Peters Angelica of Minneapolis, MN ($6,000); Nathan Bray of Oakdale, MN ($6,000); and Dustin Yager of Minneapolis, MN ($6,000).
The primary medium for each of these artists is clay. However, their individual explorations range from geologic and organic forms to mid-range pottery to installation and performance-based dinnerware. This grant program, sponsored by the Jerome Foundation, Saint Paul, MN, reflects the Foundation's interest in supporting the work of individual "emerging" artists, or artists who are at relatively early career stages.
This year’s selection panel included David Allyn, NCC's 2011 winter McKnight Artist-in-Residence, as well as the ceramics department head at the Steel Yard in Providence, RI; Ryan Fletcher, a participating artist in NCC’s current exhibition, Functional Redesign, as well as a resident artist at Red Star Studios in Kansas City, MO; and Richard Vincent, studio potter from North Branch, and artist host on the Upper St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour.Future grant rounds will depend on continued Jerome Foundation funding. Information about future grants should be available from Northern Clay Center by Fall 2012.
