American Pottery Festival

2010 American Pottery Festival: 20th Anniversary Edition

September 9 – 12, 2010

To launch Northern Clay Center's 20th anniversary year in 2010, we are thrilled to announce that this year's American Pottery Festival, September 9 - 12, will be a reunion of many of the amazing artists who have participated in the Festival over its eleven-year history, since its debut in 1999.  As of press-time, the roster of participating potters from past Festivals includes a star-studded line-up of 85 of the top ceramic artists from throughout North A merica.

Join us as we gather together artists, collectors, teachers, students, and all manner of clay enthusiasts to celebrate the art and use of the pot.  It's three days of fabulous pottery, fascinating demonstrations by APF artists Liz Quackenbush, Mark Pharis, and Linda Christianson and Julia Galloway among others, as well as thoughtful and engaging panel discussions on such topics as web marketing for the artist, the ways of selling and the whys of buying, how artists make it as gallery owners, and a collector's-eye view of contemporary ceramics.

New this year, you won't want to miss the PechaKucha, a fun and fast-paced presentation of images by visiting APF artists.  Each artist taking part in the PechaKucha (a Japanese term meaning “chit-chat”) presents 20 slides for 20 seconds apiece, giving each presenter a total of exactly 6 minutes and 40 seconds of potential fame and glory.  It promises to be an entertaining and action-packed way to see a lot of fantastic pottery in a short amount of time.

Also new this year, we plan to extend the sale portion of this special version of the Pottery Festival beyond its intense three days in Minneapolis to a wider marketplace through our Web site.  We will put any pots not sold during the Festival itself on our Web site for at least another two months past the close of the Festival weekend, making the event accessible to those who are not able to attend in person.

Friday's Opening Night Benefit Sale and Party will feature tasty food, a cash bar, and an evening spent mixing and mingling with fellow lovers of clay-and (friendly) competition for the early selections!  All this, and for a good cause too: NCC's annual Festival is our largest fundraiser of the year, whose valuable proceeds go to support artists' services, education, and exhibitions.  Your support makes it all possible.  Whether you are able to contribute simply the price of admission, or to completely revamp your home with pottery from the weekend's sale, each and every contribution makes a difference—to an artist, a student, a child, a teacher, to all of us who love pottery.

This year's line-up of regional and national participants includes such well-known and established potters as Bob Briscoe, Julia Galloway, Ayumi Horie, Warren MacKenzie, Ron Meyers, Sequoia Miller, Jeff Oestreich, and Ellen Shankin, as well as a host of emerging talents, whose work is growing in recognition and increasingly sought by collectors.  Click here for a detailed schedule of the Collectors' Weekend Package.

SPECIAL NOTE:

Pots by Warren MacKenzie will be available each day of the Festival, through a process that has been revised from previous years.  There will be two drawings: Individual eligibility to draw for a place in line to purchase a pot will be determined through a lottery that will be open for one half hour after the time the doors open; your admission ticket provides your entry to the lottery drawing.  Then, individual places in line for purchase of a MacKenzie pot will be determined through a second drawing during the first hour of each day of the Festival.  In addition, several pots will be sold each day by silent auction.
