Education Program
What is a clay body? What are cones and how hot is cone 08? Cone 10? How can I make my pots without such heavy bottoms? What does sgraffito mean? How can I translate my ideas about poetry into sculpture? Can I learn enough at NCC to become a professional potter or sculptor?

NCC’s education program can provide answers to the first questions, and can help aspiring students answer the last two. Our classes, workshops, and lectures cover ranges of age, of experience, of interest, and of ambition. We offer classes for the computer whiz who wants a different – more tangible – digital experience, as a break from the virtual reality of the computer. We offer classes for the serious sculptor who wants to add a new technique to her repertoire of ways to build objects from clay. Some students simply want to spend three hours a week connecting their hands and brains in a relaxed but creative environment. Clay buffs and serious collectors can learn about special topics in short workshops and lectures. Whatever your level of interest and experience, NCC has a class or workshop for you.

NCC also offers multiple options for working with clay outside the walls of the Center. Under the guidance of professional artists, using materials brought in the ClayMobile, the ClayToGo program brings the experience of clay to all ages, and to those who can’t easily come to us.
