American Ceramic Society

ACerS (Ohio) is an international association that provides the latest technical, scientific and educational information to its members and others in the field of ceramics and related materials; it structures its services, staff and capabilities to meet the needs of the ceramics community, related fields and the general public.

Archie Bray Foundation

Founded in 1951, the Bray (Montana) is a nonprofit, educational institution dedicated to the enrichment of the ceramic arts, offering residencies and specialized workshops to ceramic artists from around the world. Located on the 26-acre site of the former Western Clay Manufacturing Company, the Bray facilities include year-round resident studios, site-specific sculpture, community class facilities, a sales gallery, a summer warehouse gallery, extensive kiln facilities and a retail ceramic supply business.

Baltimore Clayworks

Baltimore Clayworks (Maryland) develops, sustains and promotes an artist-centered community that provides outstanding artistic, educational and collaborative programs in ceramics. We are a nonprofit ceramic art center housed in a former Enoch Pratt Library in Baltimore, established in 1980. We teach 20 classes per week; hold exhibitions; rent studio space; sell clay art and functional pottery; fire gas, electric and wood kilns; conduct workshops; host visiting artists; provide resources on technical issues and ceramic art health information; grant an annual emerging artist fellowship; and more.

Carbondale Clay Center

The Carbondale Clay Center (Colorado) exists to promote excellence in the ceramic arts and to build community through clay related activities. Our mission is to serve the community, both locally and beyond by offering strong, diversified, high quality ceramic arts educational programs, and providing support for working ceramic artists/potters through residency, teaching, exhibiting and educational opportunities.

Ceramics Today

Ceramics Today (Internet) is a comprehensive independent ceramics site, but one with a long history. Its first incarnation was Claynet, set up in mid 1995. It was one of the earliest ceramics sites on the WWW (predating even the SDSU web site). It features ceramics links, a gallery, newsletter (now the 'Update'), a Pot of the Week feature, Website of the Week feature, and the Odd Spot that features a wide variety of ceramics facts.

Clay Art Center

The Clay Art Center (New York), founded in 1957 by Katherine Choy and Henry Okamoto, is a nationally known center for the ceramic arts. Its purpose is to encourage the growth of ceramic arts for its members, students, guest artists and friends in the local community.

The Clay Studio

The Clay Studio is the only nonprofit organization in Philadelphia solely dedicated to education and instruction in the ceramic arts. It serves as the primary resource center for professional clay artists, beginning and advanced students, and ceramic collectors throughout the region.

Greenwich House Pottery

Established in New York City in 1909, Greenwich House Pottery is one of the city’s most important centers for ceramic arts. In addition to classes for all ages, The Pottery provides workshops, lectures, exhibitions and outreach, to enrich and inform our community.

Laloba Ranch Clay Center

Laloba Ranch Clay Center (Colorado) is an art school dedicated solely to the advancement of ceramic arts. Each workshop is limited to 10 serious students of any level. Emphasis will be on developing techniques, encouraging individual creative vision, and fostering close relationships that encourage the free exchange of ideas that advance our work and enrich our lives.

National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts

The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (Colorado) is a professional organization of individuals whose interests, talents or careers are primarily focused on the ceramic arts. It became an independent organization in 1967 after several years of affiliation with the Ceramics Education Council of the American Ceramic Society. NCECA is a nonprofit educational organization.

Odyssey Center for the Ceramic Arts

Odyssey Center for the Ceramic Arts (Georgia) is an educational program of Highwater Clays, Inc. The mission of the studio school is to promote understanding, appreciation and professional development in the ceramic arts. This is accomplished through a community-based educational program that includes lectures and gallery exhibitions, as well as hands-on classes and workshops for beginners, pre-professional, and professional artists and craftspeople.

Omaha Clayworks

Omaha ClayWorks (Nebraska) is a fully equipped facility that offers a unique opportunity for those interested in clay art. The facility provides classes, studio space for working artists and a small sales gallery. OCW is also available for special workshops and programs.

Pewabic Pottery

Founded in 1903 during the height of the Arts & Crafts Movement in America, Pewabic Pottery (Michigan) is today a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of the Arts & Crafts ideals while advancing contemporary ceramic arts through its full curriculum of educational programs, its support of individual artists, outreach to various communities, and leadership in the exhibition of contemporary and historic collections and archiving of scholarly research.

Red Star Studios

In the mid 1990s in Kansas City, Steven Hill was looking for a way to expand his studio, to begin an artist-in-residence program for aspiring potters, and potentially to provide space for other ceramic artists to work. This idea grew into a ceramics center, which includes a gallery featuring some of the best functional pottery from across the U.S., a teaching classroom for both ongoing classes and special workshops, and studios leased to other clay artists.

Santa Fe Clay

Our facility (New Mexico) includes a complete retail supply business, a gallery and a fully equipped studio. It is also home to 30 resident ceramic artists. Our year-round classes and workshops provide an inspirational and creative environment for 150 students ranging from children to adults, beginners to professionals.

The Studio Potter

A nonprofit organization dedicated to the service of the international community of ceramic artists and craftspeople.

Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts

Watershed (Maine) serves the local community with a variety of clay arts programs. We teach community classes in clay for adults and children statewide through our Mudmobile; hold clay workshops for people with special needs; collaborate with other nonprofit organizations to offer learning opportunities through art; and hold public lectures and events to open Watershed's studio environment and present artists for interaction with the local community.

CRAFT ORGANIZATIONS

American Craft Council

The American Craft Council is a national, nonprofit educational organization dedicated to fostering an environment in which craft is understood and valued. Programs through which the Council supports the field include the bimonthly magazine American Craft, annual retail and wholesale markets, a special library on contemporary craft, education grants, workshops and seminars, and services to professional craftspeople and retailers.

Anderson Ranch Arts Center

Anderson Ranch Arts Center (Colorado) serves the personal and professional development of artists through workshops, conferences, exhibitions, lectures, residencies and community outreach programs.

Appalachian Center for Crafts

The Appalachian Center for Crafts (Tennessee) is a nationally renowned facility dedicated to expanding the influence of craft on contemporary art while preserving craft traditions. The Craft Center offers top quality academic and professional programs in fine craft (ceramics, fibers, glass, metals and wood), including the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and professional craft certificates.

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts (Tennessee) offers art classes and craft classes for everyone from the novice to the professional. Craft education is the reason and being for Arrowmont, and for over 50 years the school has dedicated its resources to nurturing the creative talents of individuals.

Haystack Mountain School of Crafts

Haystack (Vermont) offers workshops that are open to adults 18 years or older, and all skill levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced professionals. The core season includes two- and three-week sessions in blacksmithing, ceramics, fibers, glass, graphics, metals and wood. The Haystack community is made up of approximately 85 participants, including staff, students and internationally known faculty artists.

John Michael Kohler Arts Center

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center (Wisconsin) is a not-for-profit organization established in 1967 for aesthetic and educational purposes. Its mission is to encourage and support innovative explorations in the arts and to foster an exchange between a national community of artists and a broad public that will help realize the power of the arts to inspire and transform our world.

Cornucopia Art Center

Cornucopia Art Center (Minnesota) aims to provide meaningful art experiences for people of all ages, offering workshops, in-school programs and challenging visual art exhibits. Cornucopia Art Center offers exposure to local and regional artists through a juried art sales gallery, and operates a professionally curated exhibition gallery, featuring contemporary and traditional artwork from around the world.

Lill Street Art Center

Lill Street (Illinois) offers classes, workshops and outreach to adults and children in clay, painting, drawing and metalsmithing.

Mendocino Art Center

The Mendocino Art Center (California) is an education, exhibition and resource center for the visual and performing arts located 150 miles north of San Francisco in the quiet coastal village of Mendocino.

Owatonna Arts Center

Our mission is to provide the Owatonna area (Minnesota) with opportunities to expand awareness, participation, experimentation and appreciation of the visual and performing arts.

Penland School of Crafts

Penland School of Crafts is a national center for craft education located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Penland offers one-, two- and eight-week workshops in books and paper, clay, drawing, glass, iron, metals, photography, printmaking, textiles and wood. The school also sponsors artists' residencies, educational outreach programs and a craft gallery open to the public.

Worcester Center for Crafts

The Worcester Center for Crafts (Massachusetts) is a leading institution for all ages dedicated to the knowledge, appreciation and advancement of fine crafts and craftsmanship through professional education and special events that enhance the community.

Women's Studio Workshop

WSW is a nonprofit organization in Rosendale, New York dedicated to encouraging the voice and vision of women artists. WSW hosts residencies and fellowships in ceramics, book arts, papermaking, printmaking and photography. WSW welcomes applicants from artists in all stages of their careers.
