All Clay, All Day: Winter Boot Camp for Potters

Spend an intense week at NCC with Red Wing production potter Art Gannett and improve your clay techniques in an air-conditioned studio.  In this progressive class, using the cylinder as a point of departure, students will develop specific throwing skills through the sequence of centering, opening, pulling, throwing with a rib, collaring, and shaping. Each class will begin with a demonstration and lecture on the working properties of clay and the structural dynamics involved in building a given shape.  The class is sequential in nature:  a student will continue to work on a specific stage until a reasonable level of competence has been achieved.  Participants will throw pots that are not meant to be kept, using de-aired recycled stoneware clay.  All pots thrown during this class will be recycled except one per day to mark progress.  Designed for students of all levels who want to become better potters.  Class size is limited to 8 students.
