Ceramics 101

Students will learn everything they've ever wanted to know about clay!  In this introductory course, students will learn how to use the potter's wheel, basic handbuilding techniques, and how to combine wheel-thrown and handbuilt elements to create one-of-a-kind functional pots.  The class will introduce various glazing methods and surface decorating techniques appropriate for high-temperature clays and glazes.  Participants should dress for mess and bring a one-gallon bucket, an old towel, and a beginner's set of pottery tools to the first class.  Designed for students with very little or no clay experience.
