Ron Meyers holds an MFA in ceramics from the School for American Craftsmen, Rochester Institute of Technology (1967), and BS (1956) and MS (1961) degrees in art education from the State University College at Buffalo. He began his long teaching career at the University of South Carolina, from 1967 to 1972. He then spent the next twenty years teaching at the University of Georgia in Athens where he is now Professor Emeritus.
During his teaching career and after, Meyers has been a prolific creator of extraordinary pots. Working with earthenware, Meyers makes his functional pots in a casual, spontaneous manner—revealing the juiciness of the material as well as the pleasure of the process. The colored slip paintings that float on the surface integrate a gestural style while telling a story. While many potters tell stories of animals and people on their pots, Meyers' imagery is unique in its wit, looseness, ferocity, and warmth.
Meyers' work has been shown extensively around this country and the world and is in many public and private collections. In 2008, he became the 22nd ceramic artist named as a Northern Clay Center Regis Master.
The gallery often, but does not always, have Ron's work available for sale. Please contact the Gallery Manager if you are interested in purchasing his work.
