2003 Regis Masters Exhibition

This exhibition showcased the work of two renowned international artists. 2002 Regis Master Janet Mansfield and 2003 Regis Master Gutte Eriksen. Masfield has received many awards, most notably the Order of Australia Medal for her services to art and ceramics. Her work has been shown in over 30 solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions throughout Australia, as well as in Japan, New Zealand and numerous European countries. Eriksen won a Gold Medal in Faenza: Concorso Internazionale della d’Arte in 1972 and in 1985 she was awarded the Thorvald Bindesbøll Medal of the Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Eriksen’s pots are included in many public collections such as the Mingei Museum, Tokyo; Museo Internazionale della Ceramiche, Faenza; National Museum, Stockholm; National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto; Palmer Museum of Art, Pennsylvania; and Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

Warren MacKenzie: Pots

This exhibition of work by 1997 Regis Master Warren MacKenzie, Stillwater, Minnesota, launched NCC’s new Gallery A. MacKenzie has taught and influenced generations of potters and ceramic artists, both at the University of Minnesota and in many workshops around the country and world. MacKenzie’s work has been exhibited throughout the world since the 1950s.
Three Jerome Artists

This annual Exhibition featured the work of three emerging Minnesotan ceramic artists who received project grants in 2002: Chuck Aydlett, Jamie Lang and Davora Lindner. Funded by a grant from the Jerome Foundation, St. Paul, the exhibition showed new work made by each participating artist during the past year. The exhibition included narrative hand-built pieces by Chuck Aydlett, sculptural forms by Jamie Lang, as well as figurative work by Davora Lindner.

Tea for Two – or Twenty

Gallery A featured a show and sale of work by some 65 potters from the region and around the country, who generously donated pots to a special exhibition and benefit event. All the pieces were related to the theme of tea – from brightly colored teapots and Japanese teabowls to English teacups and saucers. Guest artists included NCC Sales Gallery artists, guest artists at the American Pottery Festival (April 11 – 13) and hosts and guest artists from the Upper St. Croix Valley Potters’ tour (a tradition on Mother’s Day, May 10 – 11). The exhibition and benefit event that took place on May 4 was a partnership with Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery and Northern Clay Center. Proceeds benefited both organizations.Artists at NCC

This popular biennial exhibition featured work created by the talented teachers, students and resident artists of Northern Clay Center during the last two years. The exhibition included a wide variety of ceramics, ranging from functional to sculptural forms, low-fire to high-fire clay and from traditional reduction glazes to soda-fired surfaces.Seven McKnight Artists

2002 McKnight Artist Fellowship recipients Maren Kloppmann (Minneapolis) and Keisuke Mizuno (St. Cloud) exhibited work in this seven-person show, along with 2001 Residency grant recipients Vineet Kacker (New Delhi, India), Patrick Taddy (Vancouver, British Columbia), Janet Williams (Marquette, Nebraska) and 2002 recipients Tom Towater (Lincoln, Nebraska) and Sandra Westley (Ann Arbor, Michigan). All seven artists have received extensive recognition for their functional and sculptural work.

In Other Words. . .

Galleries M and A
In Other Words... was a group exhibition of ceramic work exploring ideas and forms of the book as an object. The show highlighted work by Takako Araki (Japan), Barbara Hashimoto (California), Nancy Selvin (California) and Forrest Snyder (Vermont).

Gallery A – Artist Project
This was a solo exhibition of modular ceramic work inspired by the stories and culture of the Midwest. Wendy Olson compares her pieces to "three-dimensional sideshow paintings," using folklore, farms, county fairs and town festivals as creative catalysts.

A solo exhibition of wood-fired pottery by Svend Bayer was on display in Gallery A. This exhibit featured work created during his fall 2003 residency at the New London Art Center in New London, Minnesota.
