Apply to teach at Northern Clay Center

Northern Clay Center offers a variety of teaching opportunities for college students, independent teaching artists, professors, and elementary school teachers.

Are you an art educator looking for professional development opportunities? Use NCC to build your curriculum and enhance your effectiveness as art educators. Check out our resources page for information on current exhibitions, details about our library and collections, and CEU workshops and other educational offerings.

Please note: while we are always open to new talent, we work with a talented roster of teaching artists who generally cover our adult class offerings. Thus, our need for teachers for our quarter-length classes is limited.  Teaching schedules are prepared approximately 4 months prior to the start of classes, to ensure adequate time for design and promotion. If you are interested in teaching for Northern Clay Center, please prepare the following materials based on your interest:

To apply to teach our regular adult quarterly classes:

  • Cover letter outlining your relevant experience and interest in NCC
  • Teaching Philosophy
  • Current Resume
  • 5-10 examples of your own studio work
  • 5-10 examples of student work

To apply to teach a workshop (one-day project or advanced topic):

  • Cover letter outlining your relevant experience and interest in NCC
  • Current Resume
  • Description of the proposed workshop and images of example projects
  • 5-10 examples of your own studio work

For students or those with no previous teaching experience:

We encourage you to get into the teaching studios as an intern or volunteer. We have many summer clay camp assistant positions available annually—an intensive opportunity to get a lot of classroom experience under the supervision of experienced teaching artists and to complete multiple sample projects. Volunteer opportunities are also available throughout the year and may include assisting teaching artists and our studio technicians. Available internships are posted on the Apply page with application instructions.
