McKnight Artist Fellowships for Ceramic Artists

In its 23rd year of programming, the McKnight Artist Fellowship for Ceramic Artists will support outstanding Minnesota ceramic artists who identify with any methodology: functional, sculptural, relational—all techniques are welcome. The intent of this program is to recognize and support midcareer artists living and working in Minnesota, who demonstrate a sustained level of accomplishment, commitment, and artistic excellence. Two $25,000 grants will be awarded in 2020. Fellowship support may be pursued for, but is not limited to: experimenting with new techniques and materials; purchasing materials and equipment; collaborating with other artists; and pursuing education, exhibition, or travel opportunities. The McKnight Fellowship recipients will be featured in a workshop and an exhibition with a corresponding catalog at the end of their grant year.

This program is made possible by the generous support of the McKnight Foundation, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

    • In light of current circumstances related to the developing public health crisis, Northern Clay Center is making changes to the application materials required for 2020. Because the duration and severity are still being determined, we feel that the safest approach for all applicants, panelists, and staff is to make all components of the application digital. In lieu the delivery of physical work samples, NCC is adding a secondary image section to the application form to include a maximum 12 additional images that represent multiple angles (front, back, left, right) of two to three recent pieces. These images should be represented on your image list and contain the same information while adhering to the digital image submission guidelines outlined above (i.e. images 11 – 14, artist name, titles, date of work, dimensions of work, medium, and image orientation)
    • Please note: between traditional image requirements, and those requested in lieu of physical work samples, each applicant may submit up to a total of 22 images as part of their 2020 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Ceramic Artists application.
