Dr. Nick Renshaw (PhD) currently lives and maintains his studio in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.  He recently completed his doctoral research, finalizing his dissertation on international ceramic art residencies through the University of Sunderland, Sunderland, UK. He previously completed his MA through the Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, during which time he also studied at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. His undergraduate study included BAs from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Manchester Polytechnic, Manchester, UK. While at Manchester he also studied at the New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred University, NY.

Renshaw’s predominantly figurative sculptures have been exhibited worldwide, more recently in shows such as Other Origins, Galerie De Witte Voet, Amsterdam; Rolling Snowball III, Redtory Art + Design Factory, Guangzhou, China; Kith and Kin, National Glass Centre, Sunderland, UK; as well as It Was 20 Years Ago Today, Northern Clay Center.

His work has also been featured in publications such as Keramiek, Tableau Fine Arts, and Ceramic Arts and Perception.  Renshaw’s work draws on myriad sources including historical influences from his upbringing in York, England. His hand-coiled, press-molded, or slip-cast sculptures are often reminiscent of Pre-historic, Roman, Viking, or Medieval imagery as well as archaeological finds which give context and contrast to their current time and place.
