September Featured Artists: Samuel Johnson, Nicholas Kosack, Tara Wilson
An intimate connection to fire comes to fruition in the works of this month’s featured artists. Johnson references the unpredictable nature of humanity with the “irregular and natural forces” of both clay and fire. Kosack pushes the limits of the material to create works that possess a certain delicateness despite the heavy nature of clay and the intensity of atmospheric firing. Wilson’s wood-fired surfaces on soft, curvy forms mindfully evoke a stillness and calm that reflects her studio surroundings in Montana. All three artists approach material and fire from different points of origin and, in doing so, preserve a critical conversation.
