NCC offers eight to ten exhibitions each year in our two gallery spaces, featuring work by contemporary artists, emerging and prominent, from this region and from around the world. Over time, we show the complete spectrum of clay work: functional and sculptural, as well as historical, architectural, cross-cultural, and industrial. Our second smaller gallery is used as an extension of the main gallery for larger exhibitions, for special exhibitions curated by NCC, and for artists' projects submitted in response to periodic Request for Proposals.  In addition, we tour the annual McKnight Exhibition to several sites each year in Minnesota and Wisconsin, other exhibitions also occasionally tour.

Our exhibitions committee, which largely directs the creative course of our exhibitions, convenes quarterly and is comprised of five individuals who are ceramic artists, academics, curators, writers, or art historians, or a combination of these.  Through our exhibition committee meetings, we aim to provide a voice for the greater ceramic world.  These individuals help to ensure NCC’s exhibitions program will balance a mix of age, gender and career stage of the artist, as well as technique, form, place of origin, and ideas.

The artwork and the artists we bring to Minneapolis benefit a very large number of people—those who pass through our doors occasionally or daily, those who attend an educational event with a guest artist, those who visit on school tours, those who are working steadily in our studios, or those who view our professional exhibition publications or see the shows online.  From working artists and academics, to teachers and collectors, to students and those who simply want a creative time-out from their busy lives—Northern Clay Center’s exhibitions continue to be an outlet for creativity, exploration and education.
