2013 Jerome Recipients Announced
Northern Clay Center announced today the names of three Minnesota artists who each received 2013 Jerome Ceramic Artists Project Grants. $6,000 was awarded to each of the following artists: Michael Arnold (Minneapolis), Karen McPherson (Minneapolis), and Ginny Sims (Minneapolis)
The primary medium for each of these artists is clay. However, their individual explorations range from locally-excavated, slip-cast forms to “living” sculptures that incorporate plants onto ceramic surfaces to modern-day majolica designs.
This grant program, sponsored by the Jerome Foundation, Saint Paul, MN, reflects the Foundation’s mission in seeking to contribute to a dynamic and evolving culture by supporting the creation, development, and production of new works by emerging artists.
This year’s selection panel included NCC’s 2012 winter McKnight Artist-in-Residence, ceramic sculptor, and associate professor of ceramics at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Pattie Chalmers; assistant professor of art at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, and participating artist in NCC’s spring exhibition, Elemental, Del Harrow; and Taylors Falls-based studio potter and artist host on the Upper St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour, Jeffrey Oestreich.
Future grant rounds will depend on continued Jerome Foundation funding. Information about future grants should be available from Northern Clay Center by Fall 2013.
