NCC and the Phipps

Northern Clay Center and The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, Wisconsin, join forces on a three-year exhibition partnership aimed at increasing the profile of ceramic artists located throughout the lower St. Croix River Valley watershed. This cross-state collaboration will feature two to three ceramic artists annually, in the Atrium Gallery at The Phipps. In addition, featured artists will present a public program (lecture/workshop/class) to take place at The Phipps. NCC invites its constituents to “cross the border” to visit these exhibits and join select staff at the artist receptions.

This exhibition is my interpretation of various aspects of the Watershed as reflected in my ceramic pieces, (sculptural and functional), which show influences from the stone tools of the Native Americans to the indigenous architecture of immigrant farmers of the area and also to the flow of the river itself and the action of it which created our unique topography and glacial potholes millions of years ago.

The Phipps presents professional visual arts and music programming, theater, and dance to audiences drawn from the Twin Cities area, Western Wisconsin, and beyond. The $7 million facility was built and funded by the William H. Phipps Foundation, area individuals, corporations, foundations, and other organizations.
