Chris's French Bread

Jan McKeachie Johnston created this square-serving platter. The orange and white surface of this Shino-type glaze serves as a quiet, varied base that is enhanced by bold iron lines and spots of dark-green glaze. The color of the French bread crust becomes vibrant and rich when served on this platter.

My sixth grade teacher once incorporated a French bread recipe into a lesson plan and, as I reflect, it is clear that this was my first lesson in craft. My class learned about the baking process, created two loaves of bread, and shared the product with each other when the lesson was complete. I absolutely loved it and even after 20 years, I look forward to baking bread.
