Teaching Artist Spotlight: Jennica Kruse

Jennica Kruse began teaching children’s summer classes at NCC nine years ago, moving into teaching adult classes in 2013. She says, “Hanging out with our awesome students is my favorite part of teaching!” If you take a class with Jennica you will be supported in developing your persistence, because, as she says, “Time spent at the wheel pays off.”

A proponent of building muscle memory, she points out that a, “…better understanding of how to modulate speed, pressure, and structure…” allows students to make successful, strong pots. “That’s when you really get to start playing with form.”

Jennica’s most memorable moments in the classroom always seem to come at weeks three and four, when she says drawing skills suddenly start showing up on the surfaces of pots. “The first few weeks are devoted to learning (or sometimes remembering) centering skills. When projects start to reveal more of the finished intention—I ALWAYS enjoy seeing it!”
