Student Spotlight: Billie Jean Van Knight

Billie Jean Van Knight started taking classes at NCC this summer, but she really caught our attention as a stellar volunteer during the 2018 American Pottery Festival. She seemed to be everywhere and was happy to join in the work and the fun! After being away from clay for 18 years, a trip to the St. Croix Pottery Tour reignited her love for clay and our friends on the tour pointed her in our direction. Shout out to St. Croix! Thank you and keep ‘em coming!

When Billie Jean isn’t in the studio experimenting with different techniques, she hosts trivia nights and is a writer. She is currently in the process of pitching a television pilot. She acknowledges there is a “huge learning curve” between what she wants to make in clay and where her abilities currently lay, but she is not daunted. She has goals to learn more about firing and glazing, “Eventually, I’d like my work to have a strong voice and to be immediately recognizable as mine.” We are excited to support your journey in clay Billie Jean and we’re glad you found us!
