NCC Activities at NCECA 2019

Northern Clay Center staff doesn’t have to travel far to participate in the 53rd annual conference, held by the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), March 26 – 30, 2019. Minneapolis is hosting the upcoming conference and NCC staff, board, and what will be an army of volunteers, couldn’t be more thrilled at the less than three-mile commute to the Minneapolis Convention Center! NCC’s own Sarah Millfelt is serving NCECA as one of the onsite liaisons for the conference, and this is shaping up to be what she thinks is one of the most dynamic conferences ever!

During the four-day conference, the theme for which is Claytopia, NCC will share and sell the work of local, sales gallery, grant recipient, and 2019 American Pottery Festival artists in the NCECA Gallery Expo area within the convention center, access to which is free to the public. This satellite presence is the perfect opportunity to continue to celebrate the relationships and artists who help keep NCC relevant and alive. Please note, the Gallery Expo space at the conference opens to the public on Wednesday, March 27, with a special preview for the NCECA Collectors Tour on the evening of Tuesday, March 26.

An anticipated 6000+ lovers of all things clay will gather in Minneapolis for NCECA 2019, which will include over 140 offsite exhibitions (at 80+ venues throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding suburbs), panels/artist demonstrations/discussions, networking, and professional development. There is something for every level of maker, collector, and educator.

With NCECA in our own backyard, NCC will once again have a table in NCECA’s Resource Hall to promote our services for artists. It’s the perfect opportunity to ask your questions, meet NCC staff, and receive valuable information about all we offer. And, back at 2424 Franklin Avenue East, we’ll be hosting five exhibitions, as well as our fantastic sales gallery. Out in the community, we are working to support five additional exhibitions. Read on for a brief summary of these exhibitions and stay tuned for more information!

If you are interested in supporting the Clay Center’s NCECA efforts, we’ll have myriad volunteer opportunities available. Send your contact info and your area of interest to nccinfo@northernclaycenter.org with “NCECA volunteering” in the subject line and we’ll be in touch!

Additional funding and support for Northern Clay Center’s NCECA programming is made possible by an Anonymous Donor, Continental Clay Company, the Windgate Charitable Foundation, and Boyer Isuzu Trucks.
