Artist Spotlight: Nat Nicholson, Anonymous Artist Studio Resident

Introducing Nat Nicholson, a 2019 - 20 Emerging Artist Resident! Nat earned her BFA in ceramics at the University of Iowa. Her sculpture follows a process which allows structures to repeatedly rise, verge on collapse, and accumulate debris until they take their final form.

NCC: You’ve been in residence at NCC for a month now, how are you settling to the studio artist community? How is the residency is matching up with your expectations so far?
NN: NCC has met all of my expectations for the residency and I am settling in well! The other studio artists and staff have been super welcoming and the facilities have everything I need. It's a privilege to be here and I'm so excited for the rest of the year!

NCC: What are you working on in your studio to kick off your year at NCC?
NN: I have created a set of tiny sculptures as well as some larger sculptural pieces in which I am testing the limits of my chosen building technique.

NCC: What is your main goal for your residency at NCC?
NN: My main goal this year is to diversify and intensify my body of work.

NCC: What event are you most looking forward to this year?
NN: I'm hoping there are some vegetarian or vegan chili + cornbread duos at NCC's annual Chili Cook Off!
