NCC Update on COVID-19, 11/19/2020

Good evening,

We are checking in today to reassure you that Northern Clay Center is taking measures to keep those we care about safe: our students, staff, the artists we serve, and our supporters. With Executive Order 20-99, it is clear that NCC’s Education and Studio program activities will need to halt for a minimum of 4-weeks to assist our state in curbing the spread of COVID-19, in compliance with current Executive Orders. Retail spaces can remain open at this time and NCC’s Sales Galleries will continue to serve individuals through in-person gallery visits of up to 2 people at a time, personal shopping, online gallery, and curbside pick-up.  All NCC activities are subject to change to be more restrictive as deemed necessary for the safety of our community. We will continue to communicate changes and will update our website and constituents regularly. Email is the best way to reach us during this time as many staff will be telecommuting, and all internal and external meetings will take place via phone and video.

Those enrolled in fall classes have been contacted via email with details about next steps for their work in progress and with regard to proportional refunds for the shortened class schedule. Please check your email or view the message on the student information page and reach out to with questions.

Here is our plan for the coming weeks:

  1. NCC will close the Education Studios and Artists Studios beginning Friday, November 20, 2020 at 11:30 PM. The closure will remain in effect through the end of the day on Friday, December 18, 2020.

  2. All onsite classes and activities are canceled through December 18, 2020, a date which may be extended as we continue to monitor developments and recommendations from the aforementioned sources (State of MN, CDC, and MDH). Currently, the winter session is scheduled to begin on January 4, 2020. This schedule is also subject to change and any adjustments will be communicated.

  3. We always work to keep our surfaces and spaces clean and sanitary. With the knowledge that COVID-19 and other viruses can remain on surfaces from hours to days, we continue to commit additional resources to sanitize the entire facility and will diligently clean the surfaces we all touch frequently within the facility. Thank you to all the students, artists, and patrons of our facility for helping us to maintain a sanitary environment.

  4. We are utilizing digital platforms when possible to continue engaging our community. Clay-Along virtual class, Self-Guided kits, Clay-Along Camp kits for kids, other kit based creative opportunities, and distance lead lectures and workshops will continue to be available. Curbside pick-up and drop-off are allowed under the current Executive Order 20-99 and clay materials and projects can continue to move through the building during the period of studio closure.

  5. The Sales Gallery remains open to the public with a limit of 2 visitors at a given time. Personal shopping services and curbside pick up are also available during business hours. Please reference the website for hours of operation

We are following all CDC and MDH guidelines within our facility and maintain that protecting the health and well-being of our community from COVID-19 is currently a far higher priority than day-to-day business.

As additional information becomes available, we will be in touch promptly via email, social media, and our website regarding any updates and changes. Thank you for your patience and your trust that we are working with great care to navigate this challenging year.

Please feel free to reach out to,, and with questions.
