April showers will bring a whole lot more than May flowers for NCC in 2018; we anticipate a lot of growth for NCC’s outreach program. In the fall of 2017, NCC embarked on a sizeable building remodel to create an outreach prep zone within our existing building — a private space for teaching artists to manage the cumbersome tasks of preparation, firing, and glazing. Additionally, this space will house special outreach and education classes, ultimately freeing up our existing classroom space to support our adult education program. (A happy secondary benefit of the remodel was the creation of a new breakroom intended to support NCC’s now famous special events and opening receptions.)
We broke ground on the outreach and breakroom areas in the early fall and by the time this newsletter reaches you, we hope to be wrapping up the last pieces of the remodel. The new outreach zone will be up and running at the perfect time as NCC’s 2018 outreach schedule will be its most ambitious to date. Armed with a recent $25,000 grant from Aroha Philanthropies, as well as generous support from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Greystone Foundation, Subaru, and several individuals, we anticipate reaching well over 10,000 students through our ClayToGo and ART@HAND outreach programs in 2018!
We invite you to pop back to see the new outreach zone for yourself and to celebrate the completion of this latest renovation, which will surely enable NCC to exponentially expand the reach of its outreach programs.
For those of you who missed the renovation, we share with you a visual anthology of the process.
