Tom Jaszczak apprenticed at Mill Creek Pottery, under Simon Levin, learning the process of wood firing. Jaszczak’s pots are earthenware, slipped, decorated, and soda fired. Jaszczak states, “The cumulative journey of a pot tells a story that brings the user into the moment of making and firing. Slips, trimming lines, finger marks, edges, wad marks, and shadows capture a moment in time.... I want my pots to be grounded in form and have an identity as a material." Jaszczak has been an artist-in-residence at the Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, MT, and The Armory Art Center, West Palm Beach, FL, and he’s currently a resident at Penland School of Crafts, Penland, NC.
