Matthew Jorgensen
Denver, Colorado

Matthew discovered ceramics while studying interior design in community college. After a couple of epiphanies, he decided to become a potter and to study at the Kansas City Art Institute. He received a BFA in ceramics and went on to be the first recipient of the Anonymous Potter residency at Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a potter, he is exploring bridges between the aesthetics of folk crafts and modernist design ideals, such as clarity of form and truth to materials. Within this format, he seeks to highlight the beauty of fired earth with both austerity and playfulness. Jorgensen moved back to Colorado in 2012 and since 2014 has been a full-time potter, working out of the Castle Clay ceramics co-op in Denver. He hopes to one day be free of debt and maybe living in or near a monastery, making pots.
