Lana Heckendorn
Philadelphia, PA

Lana Heckendorn received a BFA in Printmaking at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia.   She later developed her functional porcelain work at The Clay Studio, also in Philadelphia.   She teaches at several art centers and programs in South Jersey and Philadelphia, and lives in South Philadelphia with her husband, where she has a home-based studio. About her work, Heckendorn says, “I enjoy exploring geometric relationships and searching for proportions that tell something about the function of a piece. Hand-drawn patterns, which often wrap the forms like fabric, are applied using a printmaking technique that resembles etching, marrying the pattern to the pot. This relationship of form and surface embodies my resolution that functional objects should be enduring, not only in their craft, but in their beauty as well.”
