Betsy Williams

Betsy Williams and her husband, stone sculptor Mark Saxe, own Rift Gallery in Rinconada, New Mexico. Betsy studied ceramics at a small Japanese pottery school in New York (1992 – 1993) while working full-time as a money market trader at a Japanese bank in Manhattan. She ultimately left that job for a ceramics apprenticeship in Karatsu, Japan, under Mr. Yutaka Ohashi (1994 –1999).  Her BA was earned at St. John’s College, the "Great Books" school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Betsy makes very useful wood-fired stoneware pots. Her work is most often described as 'pure' and 'having an elegant simplicity.'  She has been a 24/7 potter since 2001.
