What is your relationship to NCC?
I was looking for an activity to do with my great-niece, Alice, and knew she enjoyed art. I read about the Center in a Minnesota publication or heard about it from my artist friends. We took our first class together in 2004; I have been returning every summer since then with Alice, Lydia, or Sam.
What does NCC mean to you?
These classes are my birthday and Christmas gifts to Alice, Lydia, and Sam every year. I love my individual time with them and they like their one-on-one time with me. It is truly a gift for us all. We love learning from "real" artists, and it fulfills my desire to know my great nieces/nephew as they grow up.
I love seeing kids learning with clay and learning their natural abilities. Alice is starting college this fall, but took ceramics in high school because she enjoyed the classes at NCC. Lydia is impressed by everyone at NCC and loves to show her projects to people. Sam remembers his first project — Scooby Doo — and enjoys seeing what everyone makes. He also recommends NCC for having “nice teachers.”
